Celebrating International Women’s Day
Today, alongside billions of women across the globe, we celebrate International Women’s Day. This important occasion recognises the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women while also highlighting the incredible progress made over the years. Every year on the 8th of March, International Women’s Day reminds us of the journey toward a more equitable and sustainable future.
Ahead of international women’s day, here is how one of our directors, Michelle Byrne is going to be spending the day!
Ahead of International Women’s Day, one of our directors, Michelle Byrne, is spending the day at a joint Network Ireland event in Croke Park. She is especially looking forward to hearing guest speaker Dr. Norah Patten.
Importantly, this event marks the first fully integrated Network Ireland gathering, bringing together representatives from every county in Ireland. Michelle will join the Kildare delegation, where she plans to promote the growing opportunities for women in the renewable energy sector. Furthermore, she expressed her excitement about attending such an inspiring and forward-thinking event.

Collaboration Is Key to Advancing Gender Equality
Get Involved with IWD 2025
International Women’s Day (IWD) is a powerful global movement driven by the collective efforts of individuals and communities worldwide. Moreover, this inclusive initiative welcomes and values all IWD activities, ensuring everyone can participate and contribute meaningfully.
At its core, IWD focuses on promoting gender equality while celebrating the remarkable achievements of women across social, economic, cultural, and political spheres. In addition, the movement encourages future generations to continue breaking barriers and creating positive change.
By embracing the mission of IWD, we not only recognise the progress already made but also inspire continued action toward true gender equality. Furthermore, this annual observance provides an important platform for amplifying women’s voices, sharing experiences, and promoting inclusivity across all industries and communities.
Together, we can support IWD’s vision and help shape a more equitable future for all.
Did You Know That Gender Equality Is One of the UN Sustainable Development Goals?
United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5) focuses on achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls. As the renewable energy sector continues to evolve, diversity and inclusion remain essential drivers of innovation, creativity, and long-term progress.
Currently, women represent only 32% of the renewable energy workforce. Additionally, there is an 8.06% difference in mean hourly pay between male and female employees at the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland.
In the rapidly growing renewable energy sector, our commitment to sustainability and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals remains stronger than ever. Therefore, we continue to place particular emphasis on SDG 5: Gender Equality, recognising the vital role diversity plays in driving innovation and positive change throughout the industry.
International Women’s Day Is Powered by Collective Action
International Women’s Day continues to grow through the collective efforts of people around the world. Collaboration, shared responsibility, and community support are what make this movement so impactful.
As world-renowned feminist, journalist, and activist Gloria Steinem once explained:
“The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organisation, but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.”
This powerful message reminds us that meaningful change happens when individuals and organisations work together. Therefore, make International Women’s Day your day and take every opportunity to create a positive difference for women everywhere.
